Over the next half term year 1 are looking forward to learning lots about Traditional Stories including ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’.  We will be re-telling stories using actions and symbols and role-playing as different characters.  We are very excited about ‘Story Book week’ where we will be dressing up as our favourite characters from traditional stories and also taking part in a story workshop. 

In Science Year 1 will be finding out about ‘Materials’ such as naming common materials and looking at a variety of terms to describe their properties.  We will be carrying out investigations looking at the best material to make Barnaby’s umbrella and looking at what happens when you apply heat on different materials e.g. to chocolate. 

Other topics which we will be learning about include, ‘Dinosaurs’, where we will be finding out interesting facts using books and the internet to help us find out about different types of dinosaurs and where they came from, using these to create our very own factfiles. 

Each class in year 1 are very excited to be designing their very own garden, which we will be created in our flower boxes.  We will be planting lots of exciting flowers and different vegetables.
