Athletics – Shining Stars
Shining Stars meet on a Tuesday after school. We practise running e.g. shuttle runs, sprinting over obstacles and relay races. We also practise throwing activities like soft javelin, soft discus and shot put and jumping activities, like standing long jump, vertical jump and high stepper. We work as a team encouraging and supporting one another. All the children work towards the Aviva Shine Awards at Level 1 or 2. Their achievements are celebrated twice a year with presentations of medals and certificates.

Shining Stars Presentation Evening
On Tuesday 28th February our after school athletics club ‘Shining Stars’ held its first presentation of the year.
Recently all our athletes have been working hard at ‘Agility Challenge’ and we have had a lot of fun trying out activities which some of our athletes have never done before. They had to try five different challenges:-
· Throwing a javelin (foam!!)
· Seeing how long they could balance with each leg on a balance bar
· How quickly they could run 4 x 10 metres
· How many speed balances they could manage in 20 seconds
· How far they could jump doing the standing long jump.
Each child achieved either a silver or gold level and was presented with a certificate and medal.
Well done to Frances who was awarded the trophy for ‘The Most Improved Athlete’
We are very proud of all the Shining Stars and what they have achieved so far.
