50th Anniversary Celebration Week

June 22-26

We had a wonderful week celebrating 50 years of learning at the school in Kirk Sandall. Staff at both our school and at the Junior School planned many events for the week including a joint school picnic on the Thursday afternoon when we were blessed with a beautiful sunny afternoon. The Junior school orchestra played and our cheerleaders and disco dancers led the entertainment!

On the Friday we all joined together to plant a Golden Delicious tree to commemorate the occasion and we were very pleased that Miss R Simpson, as a former Headteacher, was able to plant it for us.

The children also buried their ‘time capsule’ which contains a range of objects including one of the last pieces of glass produced at Pilkingtons, one of our Star Awards and a Ben Ten character.

Both schools had lots of visitors on the Tuesday and many of the old photos of the school and the area were on display so copies could be ordered by past pupils and friends.

During the week all the children contributed to a piece of collaborative artwork made of felt which will be displayed in the school entrance. We have also been lucky enough to have a group of older students produce a mural on one of the outside walls in the playground which the children are very impressed with.

Here’s to another 50 years of learning!
