ANTI-BULLYING POLICY Agreed definition of bullying
Bullying is the harassment of an individual or group that is generally repetitive and persistent although a single incident can on occasions have the same impact. The harassment is intentionally harmful and causes feelings of distress, fear, loneliness and lack of confidence.
Types of harassment:- Physical harassment e.g. pushing over or hurting Mental Harassment e.g. tormenting, excluding from group Verbal harassment e.g. calling names - usually over a period of time
How staff deal work with pupils to prevent bullying As a school all the staff will be vigilant to playground behaviour, friendship groups and mood changes of pupils. Strategies used in school to encourage discussion on these issues include: - circle time/citizenship, - assembly time, - normal discussion in class during practical activities, - listening to parents, - listening to other children.
How staff deal with allegations of bullying Steps Taken (order may vary according to incident)
N.B. Care must always be taken to listen to both sides of the story. How a pupil can deal with a possible bullying issue Staff talk regularly to pupils ensuring that they know;
They must talk to - their teacher/Headteacher - another adult e.g. learning support assistant, - lunchtime supervisor, - their parents who can then let school know, - another child. - childminder.
How parents can work with the school By talking to their own children about the importance of sociable behaviour and The Golden Rules By supporting the school’s anti- bullying policy. Allegations related to bullying of members of the staff workforce 1.Any member of the school workforce who experiences any form of harassment/ bullying should report it immediately to a member of the leadership team / the Headteacher directly or the Chair of Governors. 2. Discussion / incident formally recorded 3. Member of staff is entitled to contact their professional association for advice and support 4. Head / Chair of Govs talks to both sides 5. Meeting in school between both parties- strategies agreed 6. Problem monitored
