Autumn 1
Welcome
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone at the beginning of the new school year. It has been great to have those who were with us last year back in school and we hope that all our new children and their families have felt welcome and are getting to know everyone.
We have 78 new children in the Nursery at the start of the year and we are again offering 15 hours that can be taken more flexibly. Most parents that have requested breakfast and lunchtime provision have committed to this for the term however, we do have some capacity for a few more children to stay if any parents would like to book any additional sessions.
We have 89 children in Classes 1,2 and 3 which is a large number of children for the second year running. The induction period has helped the children to settle in extremely well and we have been amazed with their confidence and enthusiasm. From this week the children will all be going home at 3.30pm. Thank you to all our new parents for their co-operation and support during this induction period, we value the benefits of creating a real partnership with parents from the beginning. I hope you find the information session planned for Tuesday useful and please feel free to talk to us at anytime about the children’s learning and ways to support your child at home.
This term we have two new teachers in school. Mr Greene is the class teacher in Class 2 and Miss Baker is the teacher in Cl 5. We are very pleased to welcome them and also Rebecca Robinson who is our new trainee teacher and will be working with us as part of the Graduate Teacher Programme this year. She will be working initially in the Foundation Stage.
Mrs Sheehan had a beautiful baby girl on the 8th of September and we are looking forward to her bringing her in soon to see us all.
I hope you find this newsletter informative and useful. We also have an excellent new website that will be up and running very soon—you will beable to access it at www.ksinfantschool.co.uk. We will let you know when it is live by text message. Our E.mail address is admin@ksinfantschoolco.uk and can also be used as a way of communicating directly with us.
Have a good half-term everyone

Please check the parents notice board for notices and updates and we will also use the text messaging service for instant messages. All the letters we give out will be pinned up near the notice board. Every half term we will update our website with our themes and focus for that half term. Please visit our website on www.ksinfantschool.co.uk
Every 2 weeks we will send out the focus for the shape, number, colour and rhyme of the week which will have ideas of how you can help your child at home.
The theme for this half term is Nursery Rhymes and Fantasy. We will be doing lots of activities linked with this theme.
Reception
Firstly thank you all for your support in settling your children into school. This half term we will be looking at the topic ‘New Beginnings’. We will be learning about ourselves, our school and our environment. Moreover we are introducing the children to the Golden Rules.
All of the children are now beginning to learn their letters and numbers and we ask for your continued support with our personalised spelling and key ring system.
Year 1
This half term we will be learning about Ourselves, during which we will be exploring the 5 senses and locating the most important parts of our bodies. We will be investigating how our senses work, and why they are important.
As well as this we shall be finding out about Famous People, including Julia Donaldson, Helen Keller and Kandinsky. We will be studying their life and work and will be theming our class work around this.
We have recently enjoyed finding out about Julia Donaldson, particularly her book ‘The Gruffalo’. For this we made up our own actions to help us remember the story and used adjectives to describe the characters.
Year 2
The children have all settled well into their new classes and are working hard learning new things.
One of the topics we have covered is about plants. We have found out about the life-cycle of plants and will soon be planting some seeds and investigating how they grow best.
We are enjoying learning about grammar and are beginning to identify different types of words such as proper and common nouns.
To help us remember the days of the week and the months of the year we have been learning some fun new songs. We have also been learning some techniques to help us remember how to spell them.
