Public Notice for the change of category of Kirk Sandall Infant School from Community School to a Foundation School and for the acquisition of a foundation.

Notice is given in accordance with section 19(3) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that the Governing Body of Kirk Sandall Infant School intends to make a prescribed alteration to Kirk Sandall Infant School (Community), Queen Mary Crescent, Kirk Sandall, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN3 1JT. The proposed alteration is to Change School Category from Community to Foundation and Acquire a Foundation established otherwise than under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 from 01 September 2010.

 

The vision of the Trust is to :

a) create a School Partnership Trust that will raise attainment in the local community and in doing so to increase the life chances of all young people in the area served by the schools ;

b) build upon and extend the good practice that already exists amongst our pyramid of schools and the Sure Start Children’s Centre (The BEAK) that is co-located on the site of Kirk Sandall Infant School ;

c) provide a first class education for all young people in our local community ;

d) address barriers to learning through partnership and multi-agency working ;

e) contribute to community cohesion by helping to deliver improved children’s services and addressing the five outcomes of the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda ;

f) strengthen specialist provision in science, mathematics and ICT ; and

g) bring together a wide range of partners which focuses on bringing their skills, expertise and experience to support the work of the schools.

 

The proposed name of the foundation to be acquired by the Governing Body is the Brighter Futures Learning Partnership Trust. The proposed foundation will be a new charitable company and does not currently act as a foundation for any foundation or voluntary schools.

The members of the proposed Trust are :

a) Barnby Dun Primary School ;

b) Canon Popham (Voluntary Aided) Church of England Primary School ;

c) Dunsville Primary School ;

d) Hungerhill School, a Specialist Centre for Science, Mathematics and Computing ;

e) Kirk Sandall Infant School and Sure Start Children’s Centre (The BEAK) ;

f) Kirk Sandall Junior School.

Although a member of the Trust, Canon Popham (Voluntary Aided) Church of England Primary School will not acquire the Trust as it already has an existing foundation.

The partners of the proposed Trust are intended as :

a) Doncaster Primary Care Trust ;

b) Doncaster Rovers Football Club ;

c) John Leggott Sixth Form College, Scunthorpe.

The Governing Body will gain new powers and responsibilities. It will become the employer of all staff. The Governing Body will also become responsible for pupil admissions, but will work jointly with the Local Authority for the provision of pupil places. Finally, the Governing Body will have day to day control over the school premises. The school's land and buildings will transfer to the Trust to be held in trust for the school for the duration of the Trust's relationship with the school.

Within four weeks from the date of publication of this proposal, any person may object to or make comments on the proposal by sending them to the Governing Body, Kirk Sandall Infant School, Queen Mary Crescent, Kirk Sandall, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN3 1JT.
